Finally starting my blog after no taste strawberries again

I cannot believe that we as Americans are forced to eat fresh fruit that has no flavor. I suppose in the olden days this is even more true for people who bought fruit at our grocery stores in the 50's. I remember going to our local market and buying little boxes of strawberries that were good, tasty and flavorful. Now everywhere I buy fruit it has a beautiful color, is huge and tastes like cardboard.
We ship so much of our produce out of the country that we now buy fruit that is grown to be shipped; ie no flavor. Strawberries have gone from a counter product to a "grow as much as possible in one season" product. No flavor. Growers have changed the "product" to include less sugar varieties to ship without damage and now we get the remnants that have no taste.
Now all the other fruit in the store, think about it, is just the same. It all looks the same and has the constancy of a piece of meat, thick skin and no juice. If you have never had a peach that is home grown or a nectarine or a plum; you could never go back.
We put up with so much in America and sure our grocery stores are full of produce but how much of it is actually good for us. We are the masses that get fed The old adage that it takes more to build the box of Cheerios than what the farmer get paid for the products inside. Corporate America has the public by the "throat" and won't let go.

  1. My Nana used to grow strawberries in her yard and all I can say is I don't eat strawberries anymore because they don't taste like strawberries. Guess we need to go to farmers market
